Rejuvenation after the winter blues and getting over one of the worse cold and flu seasons ever.

As we welcome in Spring and the warmer weather, for some us, we are still trying to get over the horror season of colds and flu which has affected so many. It was a particular harsh winter this year for illness, with large numbers of people falling ill, with some having recurring symptoms of flu as well as developing chest and ear infections.

Now that the brunt of it has passed us, most of us have recovered well, though there are still some of us who may be struggling to get back to good health.

Don’t fret, there are some very easy things which you can do to help rejuvenate the body and feel good again.

Get out in the Sun – Now that the weather is improving, it’s a great time to get outside, We’ve been cooped up for most of the winter, so make some time to go for a walk or get out into the garden and breathe in some fresh air.

Breathing – We always talk about it but very few of us actually do it with intention. Take some time out, if you can find a nice relaxing spot, perhaps on one of the walks you are on, stop, calmly and deeply breathe in, hold for a few seconds and then breathe out. Repeat. It’s so simple. We are so lucky to be living by the ocean. The salt air we breathe in daily is an energy tonic and helps clean out toxins from our body, particularly our lungs and kidneys.  Breathing also helps to calm us and relieve stress which helps our heart and liver.

Bitter and pungent foods – Bitter leafy greens like rocket, kale and lemon balm as well as pungent food like onions, garlic and mint are all great things to be eating.  They’re action is to shake up and disperse, which can help in overcoming any residual coughs and the such which still may be hanging on.
